“To head back to the shelter of mountains and antennae, To pray to the hillock of windows, to the phosphorus veins running along the slopes. To attend to the echoes of the patios, to the sleepless dogs of the meadow. To light from all fires one's own, and harbour it in the cold lime of this clean hearth. To head back to the father, the mother, the sister, to the old and swollen hours, to the fine health of all, to be far from promise and death. To head back, but lightly, wavering, as though fallen from grace, a guilt-ridden child, to the shapes that no longer offer shelter, as though the walls had lost their thickness.”
Casa: Mountains and antennae
They were a couple of rough years that saw these songs come to be. Departures, commitment, loss and vertigo crystallised what it meant to step into adult life as my 20s neared their end. The result is a journey from the first realisation of this new instability to a search for the safety of a new home.
These songs convey what I felt then. The handful of poems that run alongside them speak what I meant to say.
Purely instrumental, ranging from flamenco-world (El Adarve) to minimalism (Guardián) and post-rock (Rush), they were recorded and mixed at the Grammy Award-winning Sol de Sants Studios in Barcelona thanks to twenty talented musicians and friends.
I hope these songs reach you and what they’ve meant to me transpires.
Thanks so much for listening,
Jaime
